Every rhinoplasty I perform addresses how the nose looks and how it breathes. The two are not separable, and planning for one without the other is how results go wrong.

Start with the concern, not the operation
Most people arrive with a concern rather than a procedure in mind. Start with whichever of these sounds like you. The procedure it leads to is a decision for the consultation, not for now.
The shape of my nose
A dorsal hump, a wide or bulbous tip, a nose that reads as large or long.
I cannot breathe properly
A deviated septum, bulky turbinates, or a nasal valve that draws in when you breathe hard.
My nose was broken
A nose that changed shape after an injury, whether recently or years ago.
A previous operation
An earlier rhinoplasty that did not settle as you hoped, or still does not breathe.
Congestion and sinus pain
Blockage, facial pressure and repeated infections that medical treatment has not settled.

How I work
Video endoscopy at consultation
The airway is assessed directly, on screen, while you are in the room, rather than inferred from the outside of the nose.
Ultrasonic instruments in every rhinoplasty
Piezoelectric instruments for the bone of the nose in all of my rhinoplasty cases. They cut bone precisely and leave the soft tissue around it intact.
Preservation where the anatomy suits it
A separate approach, about which structures to keep rather than remove. It is not right for every nose.
Revision and complex cases
Including rib and ear cartilage grafting, for patients whose first operation was performed elsewhere.
Video consultations
An in-person first consultation is ideal; video is available for patients from outside Brisbane, across Queensland and interstate.
Before surgery
How surgery is arranged in Australia
A GP referral
Required for all cosmetic surgery in Australia, and for any Medicare rebate where functional criteria are met.
Two consultations
The first is typically a full examination, including video endoscopy of the airway. The second focuses on photo morphing and your questions.
Seven day cooling off
Then surgery, a splint for seven to ten days, 10 days to two weeks off work, and refinement continuing for twelve months.

Form & Function Rhinoplasty and Sinus Surgery is my practice. I am a Specialist Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon, and I consult at Indooroopilly, Ipswich and Springfield. I operate at Westside Private Hospital (Taringa), Mater Private Hospital Springfield (Springfield Central) and Herston Private Hospital (Bowen Hills).
