The concerns people come in with, and the questions that come up afterwards.
Concerns
- Crooked noseA crooked nose and a deviated septum are related but they are not the same thing, and the difference decides what an operation would involve. The septum is the wall inside the nose.
- Deviated septumA deviated septum is a septum that is bent or off centre.
- Large or bulbous nasal tipA large or bulbous nasal tip is one that looks rounded, wide or poorly defined, and what rhinoplasty can change is set by the cartilage under the tip and the thickness of the skin over it.
- Large or long noseA nose can look long because of the height of the bridge, because the tip has dropped, or both.
- Nose bridge bumpA bump on the bridge of the nose is called a dorsal hump. It is part bone and part cartilage, and which of the two predominates changes what the operation involves.
- Symptoms of a deviated septumThe septum is the wall of cartilage and bone between the two sides of the nose. Almost nobody has a perfectly straight one, and most deviations cause no trouble at all.
Articles
- Comparing traditional and ultrasonic rhinoplastyI use ultrasonic instruments for the bone work in every rhinoplasty I do. This is how they differ from traditional instruments, and what they do not change.
- Dorsal preservation rhinoplastyDorsal preservation lowers the bridge as one intact unit instead of cutting the hump away, so the roof of the nose is not opened the way it is when a hump is cut away.
- Functional rhinoplasty and septorhinoplastyA large part of my practice is surgery done for breathing rather than for appearance.
- Non-surgical rhinoplastyNon-surgical rhinoplasty is the use of injectable filler to change how the nose looks without an operation.
- Questions about Form & FunctionI see patients by GP referral, with a first appointment that covers your history, an examination of the nose and a clear view of whether surgery is likely to help.
- Rhinoplasty for medical reasonsRhinoplasty is also done to treat breathing problems and deformity from injury or from birth.
- The impact of allergies on rhinoplasty outcomesUncontrolled allergy slows healing and can blunt the breathing benefit of surgery, so I control it before I operate.
- The role of technology in modern rhinoplastyTechnology plays two parts in my rhinoplasty work: how I plan and discuss a result with you, and the instrument I use on the bone of the nose.
- Ultrasonic rhinoplasty: what makes it differentUltrasonic rhinoplasty means using a piezoelectric instrument to reshape the bones of the nose.
- What's the difference between rhinoplasty and septoplasty?Septoplasty straightens the septum inside the nose to improve breathing, and does not change the shape of the nose. Rhinoplasty reshapes the outside of the nose.
Considering rhinoplasty?
The consultation is an assessment, not a surgery booking.
